Menhaden commercial limits set

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), composed of the 15 Atlantic coastal states, has decided to cap the commercial harvest of Atlantic menhaden starting in 2006.

The decision by the commission's Atlantic Menhaden Management Board in August established an annual cap from 2006 to 2010 on the commercial harvest. The cap, 182,475 metric tons, is based on the average harvest from the previous five years. Any amount over the cap would be deducted from the following year's quota.
