Fisherman foils suicide attempt

GOOD JOB Richard Krouch!! A Milford man returning from a fishing trip early Friday morning pulled a man attempting suicide to safety. Richard Krouch, 44, of Woodland Drive, was boating near the Marina at the Dock off Ferry Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. when he heard a man screaming in the water, police said. Krouch later on Friday declined comment on the incident.

While approaching the Devon Bridge, which carries Route 1 over the Housatonic River between Stratford and Milford, Krouch pulled the man into his boat and called an ambulance before reaching the marina, police said. The 44-year-old Stratford man, whose name was withheld, told officers he jumped off the span in a suicide attempt, according to police. The man told police he received a lot of bad news in recent days and didn't want to deal with it anymore. The man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, according to police. Emergency medical services personnel indicated he was in the early stages of hypothermia. John Cappiello, the hospital spokesman, said later Friday he had no record of the man's treatment.
