Fishing Contests & Breakfasts

Fishing contests: The Fish Connection in Norwich will be holding an opening day big-trout contest with prizes for the top three biggest trout brought into the shop Saturday. Preregistration is required, so stop by to sign up if you are feeling lucky. The store will be open early, around 4:30 a.m. on Opening Day.

Mike's in Voluntown will be holding its annual opening day contest, plus an all nighter from 7 a.m. Friday through Saturday evening for the convenience of their customers. Mike's contest is judged by the length, rather than weight of the trout brought in for the contest and they usually require pre registration as well.Prizes are given to both adults and kids in two separate categories.

Boondocks will be open for 34 hours straight from 9 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday. They are having an opening day contest with prizes given in both kids and adult categories. Boondocks is also having a fisherman's breakfast at the shop and will begin serving some time around 2 a.m. for early birds. All the area shops stay open late Friday through late afternoon or early evening Saturday for the convenience of their customers.

Bob's Place and Boondocks both have automatic bait dispensing machines at their premises for anyone who may stop by when they are closed.

Breakfasts: Mike's reports they have only one flyer from the local Cub Scout Troop, who is holding a fisherman's breakfast from 5-11 a.m. at the Voluntown Volunteer Firehouse.

Bob's Place in Ballouville said the South Killingly Fire Department is holding a fisherman's breakfast from 5-9 a.m. at their location on Route 6 in South Killingly.

Bethel Community United Methodist Church on Route 165 in Griswold will be holding an all-you-can-eat fisherman's breakfast from 5-10 a.m. for $5 per person. Call 376-2255 for information. (Bob Sampson, Norwich Bulletin).
