The Post - Great Park Pursuit coming to Wharton Brook Park

  • The Great Park Pursuit for this spring includes many activities to get families outdoors, including an event at nearby Wharton Brook Park on the Wallingford-North Haven town line. Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele on Wednesday announced the spring version, which is designed to introduce Connecticut's outdoor adventure to families as well as to help build the next generation of environmental stewards and showcase Connecticut's State Parks and Forests over seven weeks this spring.
  • This year's effort includes a Family Fishing Day on May 12 at Wharton Brook off Route 5. The pond is one of several state-run trout parks in Connecticut. Larger trout are put in trout parks, which have easy access. Also on the list of ponds for Famly Fishing Day is Lake Wintergreen in Hamden. Other desinated places: Bunnell Pond, Bridgeport; Keney Park, Hartford; Chatfield Hollow, Killingworth; West Rock Ridge, New Haven; Southford Falls, Southbury and Valley Falls Park, Vernon. The Great Park Pursuit kickoff is May 12 at Beardsley Park in Bridgeport. The program concludes June 23.
  • More information can be found at the No Child Left Inside website.
  • Free Daily State Park Pass: For the second year through a partnership with the Connecticut Library Consortium, public libraries across the state will have a Connecticut State Park & Forest day pass available for patrons. Library patrons may borrow the pass and use it for free parking at the major state parks where parking fees are charged. The pass is also good for admission to any museum located at a state park.
