Group aims to protect Pootatuck River

The Pootatuck River is a Newtown town treasure. The river and its tributaries cut through the heart of Newtown where people can often be found fishing, hiking and walking their dogs along the more than 20 miles of stream.

The Pootatuck Club, Newtown Forest Association, Trout Unlimited, town officials and several other groups are creating a new non-profit group to help protect the aquifer and river. The groups will have several functions including educating the public through school and town programs about pollution, water runoff and the importance of the river system and researching how much underground water is being used and how much is actually available.
