Lost Boater Is Found Safe

The moral of this story is always respect the sea.
NEW LONDON -- The Coast Guard early Sunday rescued a 46 year old male boater who had spent the night on choppy waters on Long Island Sound. The man had decided to go out fishing Saturday nightdeparting from Southold, NY on an 8 foot inflatable dinghy even though the heavy rainstorm had not completely passed. He was about a half mile out on the sound when the motor on his 8-foot boat gave out. For about 2-1/2 hours, he tried to paddle back to shore, but the wind and sheets of rain pushed him out into the sound. At 11pm his wife called the Coast Guard who then conducted a searched in dismal sea conditions with wind gusts of up to 40 knots and seas 2 to 6 feet high. After conducting 3 searches the boater was found 10 miles off Saybrook Point, CT at 6:45am Sunday morning.
