- With the words "Go fish!" Stonington First Selectman William Brown reopened two rebuilt fishing platforms on the Masons Island causeway this morning.
- The town had closed the popular platforms in 2005 because they had badly deteriorated and become dangerous. The town undertook a $176,759 project to rebuild the wooden platform, each of which are now eight feet longer and four four feet wider than the old ones and have a bench. They are handicapped accessible and the large openings in the old railings are gone.
- “In 2005 we got a lot of heat for closing the platform but we had to do the right thing and take it down,” Director of Public Works Joe Bragaw said. “We said we would put it back up and we did.” (by Joe Wojtas on theday.com)
