Big Bass caught in Black Pond
Hey gang. Did ya’ hear about that big ol’ hawg (translates into huge largemouth bass) being caught a couple of weeks ago at our own Black Pond on the Meriden/Middlefield town line? I mean to tell you, this bass was a bruiser. A local bass pro who hails from South Meriden, Jonathon Dingle, landed the behemoth on a Texas-rigged 6 inch lizard with a 1/4 ounce bullet head weight. The bass tipped the scales at nine pounds, five ounces. I gotta tell you, that’s a whole lot of freshwater bass! Jonathon kept him in the live well of his bass boat and brought it by my house for me to see. Of course I had to take a couple of photos and then Jonathon returned the huge bass back to the waters of Black Pond.
Dingle is the real deal as far as I am concerned. Any success he has fishing tournaments does not go to his head and when he comes in on the lower end of a fishing tournament he does not let it get him down. He works very hard at being a bass pro and always has time to share his love of fishing with the kids in our area. Dingle runs the fishing derby for the Daffodil Festival in Meriden, and you are more than likely to find him on the Quinnipiac River on Opening Day handing out all kinds of fishing goodies to kids and adults who may be fishing with them.
