Probably the single largest project the Mianus Chapter has ever taken on, the planned bypass channel around the Cannondale Dam in Wilton is about to get underway. Starting on Monday, Sept. 26 and running for roughly one week, the project will involve digging a channel around the dam to allow trout to head upstream to some of the better spawning habitat in the river. The wild brown trout population has already benefited greatly from past chapter river projects as shown through DEP electro-shocking, and this latest step will surely help even more.
Unlike past projects, this one does not require much volunteer labor as it will be mostly heavy machinery work, but feel free to swing by and see the work in progress and view the end result. For more information go to www.mianustu.org.
