March Fishing Locations in Connecticut

Trout fishing closed on most lakes, rivers and streams on Tuesday. But the state Department of Environmental Protection still wants anglers to have access to the fishery. During the month of March, the DEP allows anglers to fish in the following waters: Beaver Brook in Scotland, Coppermine Brook in Burlington, Deep Brook in Newtown, Eightmile River in Southington, the "Trout Management Area" on the West Branch of the Farmington River in New Hartford, the Farmington River TMA in Burlington, Hammonasset River TMA in Madison, Hawleys Brook in Easton, Hockanum River in Manchester, the two Housatonic River TMAs in Cornwall and New Milford, Macedonia Brook outside of Macedonia State Park in Kent, Merrick Brook in Scotland, Mianus River TMA in Stamford, Mill River TMA in Fairfield north of Lake Mohegan, Moosup River TMA in Plainfield, Pequabuck River TMA in Bristol, Pootatuck River TMA in Newtown, Quinnipiac River TMA in Southington, Salmon River TMA in Haddam, Saugatuck River "William Doc Skerlick" TMA in Westport, Tankerhoosen River TMA in Vernon, Ten Mile River in Kent, Wachocastinook Brook in Salisbury, Willimantic River in Tolland, and the Yantic River in Bozrah.

All the above rivers have very specific regulations governing March trout fishing. They are only open for catch and release angling. Most require barbless hooks and prohibit live bait. Consult the 2005 Anglers Guide before fishing on any of these rivers and streams.

For lake anglers, you can fish for trout in Amos Lake in Preston, Candlewood Lake in Danbury, Crystal Lake in Ellington, Highland Lake in Winchester, Quonnipaug Lake in Guilford, Rogers Lake in Old Lyme, Squantz Pond in New Fairfield and West Hill Pond in New Hartford. Check the Anglers Guide for the daily creel and size limits. Also, ice fishing is not permitted on Quonnipaug Lake.
